You Never Left

I did all the tricks in the book,
Did it once, and did it twice.
I did it again, just to make sure it worked.
I tried and I tried, just to get you out of my life.

I seemed to have managed,
put away your things, locked them in a box.
I stopped playing the tapes, and forgot the memories.

You seemed to have done the same,
Pushed me out of your life like it was nothing..
Like nothing had ever been there.

I forgot about you after time, and moved on.
I finally found happiness..
Finally found love once again;

Than you just stepped right back in, just to mess with my mind;
I can see your games, and I can hear your words.
I will not fall for them, I will not fall.

I tried to tell you,.. Your evil plan was never going to work.
You were already out of my life,
And no matter how much I tried to convince you,
I found that I couldn't even convince myself.

I read every trick in the book,
read it once, read it twice.
But the book was too boring for me to actually follow along,
and after a while, I had forgotten where I had even placed it.

I put your things away, and locked them in a box,
But I kept the key, and kept the box next to my bed;
I put away the tapes, and forgot those memories,
But I wrote a book, and kept the other memories.

I found others, and found love,
but they never lasted. They were as short as I could make it.
Never true, and all I could think of when I was with them, was you.

I try to say you left my life...
But you were never really gone.
